Chapter 10 - THE KISS THAT CHANGED THE AGREEMENT

It happened after a long day.
We were standing on the balcony of Gabriel's house.
The ocean stretched beneath the moonlight.
He handed me a cup of tea.
I smiled.
“Thank you.”
For a while, neither spoke.
Then Gabriel looked at me.
“Mallory.”
I turned.
“Can I ask you something?”
I nodded.
“Are you happy?”
The question startled me.
I thought about it.
Then smiled.
“Yes.”
Gabriel's expression softened.
“Good.”
I looked at him.
“Are you?”
He hesitated.
Then nodded.
“More than I expected.”
My heart raced.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then he stepped closer.
“Can I kiss you?”
I smiled.
“Yes.”
His lips met mine.
Softly.
Carefully.
But this time, it wasn't a courthouse kiss.
It wasn't for appearances.
May you like
It was real.
And when he pulled away, I knew our agreement had changed.
