Chapter 8 - The Purge of the Marital Estate

Three days later, I was officially discharged from St. Jude Memorial Hospital, feeling healthy, nourished, and surrounded by the unwavering security of Marcus’s protection detail.
Accompanied by Julian Hayes, I arrived at the 40th-floor corporate headquarters of Vance Cybernetics in downtown Chicago.
The executive boardroom was packed with thirty senior directors, institutional investors, and international partners who had gathered for an emergency shareholder assembly.
I walked into the room dressed in an immaculate, tailored charcoal-grey wool maternity power suit, my posture straight, commanding, and radiating absolute, untouchable authority.
Julian Hayes slammed the certified Chancery Court discovery order onto the sixty-foot mahogany conference table.
“Gentlemen,” Julian announced, his voice carrying effortless precision across the vaulted room. “Pursuant to the emergency judicial asset freeze, all executive titles, voting proxies, and commercial dividends formerly claimed by Liam Vance have been declared null, void, and criminally fraudulent ab initio.”
Julian presented the authenticated master deed.
“One hundred percent of the voting shares and executive chairmanship are officially assumed by Mrs. Clara Vance.”
The board members looked at me, rising in a unanimous, respectful standing ovation.
“Furthermore,” I spoke, my voice ringing clear, steady, and unshakeable. “The name of this company is hereby changed to The Phoenix Cybernetics & Security Group. And twenty percent of all annual corporate dividends will be permanently dedicated to establishing emergency shelters and trauma recovery centers for abused women across the country.”

The board applauded with thunderous enthusiasm.
I looked out the panoramic glass wall overlooking Lake Michigan. The cold chains of the past were shattered forever. I was sovereign, victorious, and free.
