Chapter 6 - The Penthouse Eviction Reversed

Dominic stepped forward, towering over the trembling socialite.

“You stole Grace’s wages,” Dominic said softly. “You had her evicted from her home while her mother lay dying in a hospital bed. You thought she had no one to stand behind her.”

Dominic gestured toward the door.

“Remove the ring, Evelyn.”

Evelyn’s eyes welled with furious, humiliated tears. “Dominic, please! My father can explain the shipping logs! It was a misunderstanding! We can fix this!”

“The ring,” Dominic repeated, his voice cold as a frozen lake.

With shaking, manicured fingers, Evelyn pulled the five-carat diamond ring from her finger and placed it on the marble table.

Julian Hayes, Dominic’s Chief Legal Officer, stepped out of the study flanked by two armed Mercer private security officers.

“Miss Ashford,” Julian Hayes announced, handing her an official legal envelope. “Under New York Executive Law, you are served with an immediate Notice of Trespass and a restraining order prohibiting you from entering any property owned by the Mercer Syndicate. In addition, the Port Authority of New York has just revoked your father’s maritime security clearance.”

“You will regret this, Dominic!” Evelyn shrieked, her aristocratic mask completely shattering into ugly, bitter hatred. “My father will destroy you! He controls the state senate! He will crush your permits!”

“Tell your father,” Dominic replied with quiet, absolute finality, “that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is raiding his Manhattan townhouse as we speak.”

Two security guards firmly escorted Evelyn into the elevator, her high heels clicking frantically as the doors closed on her weeping, disgraced face.
