Chapter 5 - The Ashford Conspiracy

“Where... where did you get that?” Evelyn stammered, taking an involuntary step back toward the elevator.
“My penthouse has ninety-six encrypted surveillance feeds, Evelyn,” Dominic replied, walking toward her with measured, terrifying steps. “Did you truly believe you could operate a blackmail racket inside my home without my knowledge?”
Evelyn tried to rally her composure, forcing a tight, defiant laugh. “So what?! She’s a twenty-dollar-an-hour cleaner, Dominic! My father is Senator Richard Ashford! We are merging two of the most powerful dynasties on the East Coast! You cannot jeopardize an alliance worth three billion dollars over a peasant!”
“An alliance?” Dominic echoed, pulling a thick blue-jacketed dossier from his desk.
He dropped the heavy folder onto the glass coffee table with a resounding thud.
“Let’s discuss the real alliance, Evelyn,” Dominic said, his voice dropping into a tone of lethal, razor-sharp clarity.
Displayed on the open pages were forensic bank audits, encrypted emails, and maritime shipping logs:
The Smuggling Shell: Evelyn’s father, Senator Richard Ashford, had been using Mercer Global’s Brooklyn shipping terminals to bypass federal customs inspections, routing unauthorized foreign defense hardware through an offshore front named Aegis Horizon LLC.
The Liquidation Scheme: Contracts showing that the Ashford family planned to file an emergency commercial conservatorship petition forty-eight hours after the wedding, attempting to freeze Dominic’s corporate voting shares and transfer control of the harbor terminals to a foreign private equity syndicate.
The Kickback Ledger: $45 million in secret offshore payments funneled from foreign buyers into Evelyn’s private accounts in the Cayman Islands.
Evelyn gasped, clutching her designer purse against her chest as her knees began to shake violently.

“You... you’ve been auditing my father?” she whispered in sheer terror.
“I have audited your entire bloodline, Evelyn,” Dominic answered coldly. “You didn't want a marriage. You wanted a heist.”
