Chapter 6 - The Frozen Millions

While I rested in the hospital suite bonding with Liam, Margaret Sloan and a team of forensic accountants from Deloitte descended upon the corporate headquarters of Hale-Mercer Logistics in downtown Columbus.
What they uncovered in Richard’s private executive suite went far beyond standard corporate greed.
Sitting across from Senior Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Vance, Margaret laid out the itemized forensic audit mapping five years of systemic embezzlement:
Richard had siphoned $4.2 million from the company’s operating accounts into a shell entity named Kelsey Rose Consulting LLC.
The funds had been used to purchase a $1.8 million luxury home in Dublin, Ohio, an eight-carat yellow diamond engagement ring, and three leased European sports cars for Kelsey.
To cover the shortfall, Richard had forged Daniel’s digital signatures on three commercial loan applications, attempting to leave Daniel with the debt while Richard extracted the liquid capital.
“He didn't just try to evict Emily,” Prosecutor Vance noted, adjusting her glasses with cold fury. “He was planning to declare corporate bankruptcy, let Daniel’s estate take the entire $10 million liability, and flee with Kelsey to a non-extradition villa in the Caribbean next month.”
“And what about the $1.8 million house in Dublin?” Margaret asked.
“The title was held under the corporate subsidiary,” Vance confirmed. “Since Emily is now the sole owner of Mercer Global Logistics, that luxury home belongs one hundred percent to Emily. We have already served an emergency eviction notice on the residence.”
At that moment, Kelsey Hale was sitting in a holding cell at the county jail, wearing a coarse orange jumpsuit, screaming through the iron bars at the public defender.
“I am an influencer! I have ninety thousand followers on Instagram! You can’t keep me in here with these criminals! Tell Richard to pay my bail!”

The public defender looked up from his clipboard with tired indifference. “Mrs. Hale, your husband has zero dollars in accessible funds. His credit cards are canceled. And the luxury sports car you drove to Emily’s house this morning has just been repossessed by the sheriff’s department.”
Kelsey collapsed onto the steel cot, her manicured nails breaking against the rough mattress as she wailed in utter, irreversible ruin.
