Chapter 8 - THE WOMAN WHO REFUSED TO DISAPPEAR AGAIN

Clara met with an attorney specializing in harassment and cross-border legal matters.
She provided evidence of Marco's past threats.
The messages he'd sent before she fled Sicily.
The photographs of bruises she'd secretly saved.
The documents showing Henderson's connection to Marco's company.
The attorney listened carefully.
Then said:
“You have options.”
Clara stared.
For years, she'd believed her only option was disappearance.
Now someone was telling her she could fight.
She began gathering evidence.
Contacting people who knew Marco.
Reviewing old records.
And speaking openly about what she'd survived.
It was frightening.
Some nights, she woke shaking.
Some mornings, she wanted to change her name again.
But she kept going.
One afternoon, Salvatore found her sitting at the kitchen table.
She was surrounded by documents.
He smiled faintly.
“You look like your mother.”
Clara looked up.
“What?”
“She never backed down when she knew she was right.”
Clara's eyes filled.
Her mother had died when she was nineteen.
Salvatore sat beside her.
“I should have listened to you years ago.”
She nodded.
“Yes.”
He looked down.
“I know.”
Clara took a breath.
Then said:
“I don't want revenge, Papa.”
He looked at her.
“I want my life back.”
May you like
Salvatore nodded.
“Then that's what we'll work toward.”
