Chapter 13 - THE LETTER ADRIAN WROTE TO HIS MOTHER

On the anniversary of Eleanor Vale's death, Adrian visited her grave.

He brought yellow flowers.

And a letter.

He sat on the bench beside the headstone.

“Mom,” he whispered.

“I found her.”

His voice broke.

“Your granddaughter.”

He smiled through tears.

“Her name is Olivia.”

He looked toward the sky.

“She teaches children.”

He laughed softly.

“She has your stubbornness.”

Then he opened the letter.

Dear Mom,

I spent most of my life believing success meant never needing anyone.

I was wrong.

I thought money could protect me from pain.

It couldn't.

I thought being powerful meant being alone.

It doesn't.

You taught me to speak with my hands before I could speak with my voice.

And somehow, after all these years, those same hands led me back to my daughter.

Thank you.

I love you.

Adrian folded the letter.

Then placed it beside the flowers.

May you like

For the first time in twenty-six years, he left the cemetery feeling something other than regret.

He felt grateful.
