Chapter 7 - The Port Security Breach in Nassau

At 4:00 AM, the massive cruise liner executed an unscheduled emergency tactical docking at the private naval terminal in Nassau, Bahamas.
Two cutter vessels from the United States Coast Guard and four unmarked tactical SUVs from the FBI International Operations Division were waiting at the pier under blinding halogen floodlights.
Gregory Hartman was wheeled down the gangway under armed guard, his face swollen and bandaged, wearing an orange detention jumpsuit.
Senior Special Agent Marcus Stone of the FBI Maritime Task Force walked up the ramp, meeting me on the promenade deck.
“Captain Vance,” Agent Stone said, offering a crisp, formal handshake. “We received the digital dossier from ship security. Our Miami field office raided Arthur Hartman’s estate forty minutes ago.”
“Did you get him?” I asked.
“We caught him in his study attempting to shred fifteen years of forged maritime insurance claims,” Agent Stone smiled with cold satisfaction. “We also recovered the cold-case files on his first wife’s 1996 death in Cabo. Your actions tonight didn't just save your own life; you brought justice to three other women this family destroyed.”

I looked out across the dark Atlantic waters as the cool sea breeze whipped through my hair.
The nightmare was over. The trap had failed.
