Chapter 7 - The Night Adrian Lost His Empire

Lucian’s final move came during a citywide charity gala hosted at Vale Tower.
He released documents portraying Adrian as the sole leader of every criminal operation.
Some were real.
Others altered.
The public distinction barely mattered.
Federal warrants were issued.
Board members abandoned the building.
Employees removed nameplates.
Adrian stood inside his father’s office while screens showed his empire collapsing.
Thomas entered.
“Lucian wants you to run.”
“He expects it.”
“A helicopter is waiting.”
“For him?”
“For you. Marcus says the pilot belongs to Lucian.”
Adrian understood.
If he fled, he would appear guilty of everything.
If he boarded, he might never land.
He walked into the ballroom instead.
Reporters crowded the entrance.
Federal agents stood near the stage.
Lucian watched from a private balcony, believing himself unseen.
Adrian stepped to the microphone.
“My name is Adrian Vale.”
The room quieted.
“I have committed crimes.”
His attorneys had begged him not to begin that way.
He continued.
“I used violence, intimidation, and illegal influence because I inherited a system that taught me power erased responsibility.”
Lucian’s face changed above.
Adrian named companies.
Accounts.
Officials.
His own decisions.
Then he spoke about the convoy.
“My fiancée and daughter were targeted by members of my family and security organization. My daughter survived. Evelyn Hart survived.”
A wave moved through the room.
Lucian turned toward the balcony exit.
Federal agents entered behind him.
He drew a gun.
Marcus stepped from the shadows.
His injured arm remained in a sling.
Lucian aimed at him.
“You ungrateful animal.”
Marcus looked at Adrian below.
Then at Lucian.
“For fifteen years, I thought obedience would make me family.”
Lucian fired.
Marcus moved first.
The bullet struck the railing.
Federal agents tackled Lucian before he could shoot again.
The balcony doors opened.
Cameras captured everything.
Adrian watched his uncle descend in handcuffs.
Then Leah Benson approached the stage.
“Adrian Vale, you are under arrest.”
He held out his hands.
The cuffs closed.
Evelyn watched from a protected room through a live broadcast.
Lily slept beside her.
Adrian lost his empire that night.

For the first time, he gained the possibility of becoming someone his daughter could know without fear.
