Chapter 6 - THE NOTEBOOK UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS

Cora had hidden Daniel's notebook beneath the floorboards of their old apartment.
She hadn't opened it in three years.
Not because she didn't care.
Because every page reminded her of the man she'd lost.
Wesley accompanied her to the building.
He waited outside while she retrieved it.
When she returned, her face was pale.
She held a small black notebook.
The cover was worn.
The pages filled with Daniel's handwriting.
Cora sat beside the window.
She opened it.
The first pages contained technical diagrams.
Database structures.
System notes.
Then came a series of numbers.
Dates.
Transaction references.
And names.
One name appeared repeatedly.
THADDIUS MERCER.
Cora stopped breathing.
Wesley looked at the page.
“Your father-in-law?”
She nodded.
Her hands began shaking.
Daniel had been investigating Thaddius.
Not simply a difficult family member.
Not merely a man who demanded money.
But someone connected to the financial manipulation hidden inside Harrow's systems.
Cora turned another page.
A sentence was underlined twice.
If anything happens to me, follow the false invoices.
She began crying.
Wesley sat beside her.
He didn't touch her.
He simply waited.
Finally, Cora whispered:
“Daniel knew.”
Wesley looked at the notebook.
“Yes.”

She closed her eyes.
“And Thaddius knew Daniel knew.”
