Chapter 13 - THE MAN WHO LEARNED TO LET GO OF POWER

Wesley's empire changed dramatically.

The investigation exposed misconduct inside several businesses.

He cooperated with legal authorities.

Accepted scrutiny of his own operations.

And began separating legitimate companies from criminal activities.

The process cost him money.

Influence.

And relationships.

But Wesley continued.

He had spent years believing power meant controlling everything.

Now he understood that control had hidden the truth from him.

One evening, he met Cora at Il Farro.

The restaurant was quieter than usual.

Papa G greeted them warmly.

Delilah hugged Cora.

Presley emerged from the kitchen carrying fresh bread.

Cora smiled.

For the first time, the restaurant no longer reminded her only of fear.

It reminded her of the night someone finally stood up.

Wesley looked at her.

“Cora.”

She smiled.

“Yes?”

“I've been wanting to ask you something.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“Should I be worried?”

He laughed softly.

“Probably.”

She smiled.

“Go on.”

Wesley took a breath.

“Would you have dinner with me sometime?”

Cora stared.

“As a date?”

He nodded.

“Yes.”

She studied him.

May you like

Then smiled.

“I'd like that.”
