Chapter 10 - THE SISTER WHO DISAPPEARED

The possibility changed everything.

Antonio had spent six years believing Elena was dead.

Now, reviewing the records, we found inconsistencies.

A bank transfer.

A medical bill.

A passport application under another name.

All dated after her supposed death.

I stared at the documents.

“Antonio.”

He looked at me.

“What?”

“This woman.”

I pointed to a photograph.

“She looks like Elena.”

He leaned forward.

The image showed a woman entering a clinic in Lisbon.

Dark hair.

Brown eyes.

A small scar beneath her chin.

Antonio froze.

“Elena had that scar.”

My heart raced.

He stared.

Then whispered:

“Oh my God.”

Within hours, Marco contacted investigators.

The woman had used the name Elena Santos.

She had lived quietly in Portugal for several years.

Then disappeared again.

Antonio sat beside the archive table.

His hands were shaking.

I took his hand.

He looked at me.

For the first time, the feared mafia boss looked completely vulnerable.

“What if she's alive?”

I swallowed.

“Then we find her.”

He closed his eyes.

And for the first time, hope frightened him more than grief.
