Chapter 14 - THE PROPOSAL IN THE STORAGE ROOM

Damon proposed in the most unexpected place imaginable.
The third-floor storage room.
Kate walked in one evening and found the shelves decorated with white flowers.
Soft lights glowed along the walls.
A small table stood near the window.
She stared.
“Damon?”
He stepped forward.
“I know this room holds a terrible memory.”
Kate swallowed.
He continued.
“I can't erase what happened here.”
He took her hand.
“But I wanted to give you a different memory too.”
Kate's eyes filled.
Damon knelt.
He opened a small velvet box.
Inside was a simple diamond ring.
“Kate Bennett.”
His voice trembled.
“You taught me that strength isn't about making people afraid.”
He smiled through emotion.
“It's about making them feel safe.”
Kate began crying.
“I love you.”
He swallowed.
“Will you marry me?”
Kate laughed through tears.
“Yes.”
Damon closed his eyes.
Then stood and embraced her.
She kissed him.

And for the first time, the storage room was no longer only the place where her life had nearly fallen apart.
It was also the place where a new chapter began.
