Chapter 13 - THE FIRST TIME HE ASKED HER TO STAY

Our first date was simple.
A quiet restaurant overlooking the ocean.
No bodyguards at the table.
No expensive gifts.
No expectations.
Just conversation.
Dante asked about my nursing career.
I asked about Leo.
He told me stories about Sofia.
I told him about my childhood in Ohio.
We laughed.
More than I expected.
At the end of the evening, he walked me to my car.
“Clare.”
I looked up.
“Yes?”
He hesitated.
“I'd like to see you again.”
I smiled.
“I'd like that.”
He stepped closer.
Then stopped.
“May I kiss you?”
My heart raced.
I nodded.
“Yes.”
He kissed me gently.
Nothing desperate.
Nothing rushed.
Just warmth.
When we pulled apart, he rested his forehead against mine.
“I've wanted to do that for a long time.”
May you like
I laughed softly.
“So have I.”
