Chapter 7 - THE WOMAN FROM LUCA'S PAST
Not everyone welcomed Luca's sudden interest in Nora.
His former fiancée, Bianca Moretti, heard about the hospital visits.
She arrived at the mansion one afternoon wearing a cream suit and an expression of practiced concern.
“Luca.”
He looked up from his desk.
“Bianca.”
She smiled.
“I heard about your wife.”
His expression hardened.
“What about her?”
Bianca hesitated.
“The hospital.”
Luca stood.
“Choose your words carefully.”
She laughed softly.
“I'm only worried.”
“About?”
“Whether Nora is using your sympathy.”
Silence.
Luca looked at her.
“Get out.”
Bianca blinked.
“Luca—”
“My wife is caring for a sick child.”
Bianca's smile vanished.
“And you think that makes her weak?”
He stepped closer.
“No.”
His voice was cold.
“I think it makes her stronger than either of us understood.”
Bianca stared.
Then turned and left.
Luca watched the door close.
