Chapter 4 - THE HUSBAND WHO FINALLY ASKED
Luca canceled every meeting the next morning.
His assistant stared.
“Sir, the port acquisition—”
“Reschedule.”
“The investors from Boston—”
“Next week.”
“The meeting with Moretti—”
“Tell him I have a family emergency.”
His assistant blinked.
“Family?”
Luca looked toward Nora's bedroom.
“Yes.”
Then he called St. Bridget's Children's Hospital.
He didn't demand access.
Didn't threaten anyone.
Didn't use his name.
He simply asked how he could support the child Nora had been caring for.
The hospital explained that medical information required proper authorization.
Luca accepted that.
Then he asked Nora whether she'd allow him to visit Lily.
She studied him for a long moment.
“Why?”
He swallowed.
“Because she's important to you.”
Nora looked down.
“And because I should have asked about your life a long time ago.”
Her eyes filled.
