Chapter 6 - The Night of the House Purge

By midnight, the fortress on the Long Island sound was locked down under military-grade security protocols.
All forty-eight domestic staff members and sixty estate security personnel were assembled in the grand reception hall under the watchful eyes of my elite tactical guard.
Marco returned from Greenwich, carrying a heavy titanium firebox recovered from a hidden floor safe inside Dr. Reeves’s luxury home.
He unlocked the latches and laid the documents on the central table before me:
Wire transfer confirmations showing monthly payments of $45,000 originating from a shell entity named Vance Capital Syndicate.
Encrypted emails dating back three years, detailing the exact schedule of Isabella’s medication and reports verifying that her motor reflexes remained suppressed.
And the ultimate betrayal: a signed promissory note naming Lorenzo Moretti—my own second-in-command and cousin—as the primary beneficiary of the family’s European shipping ports in the event of my death or retirement without an able-bodied heir.
The room went dead silent.
Lorenzo stood among the capos near the fireplace, his tailored Italian coat pristine, but his hands were shaking so violently that his cigar fell from his fingers onto the Persian rug.

“Antonio...” Lorenzo stammered, stepping forward with his hands raised. “Listen to me... it wasn't like that! The Moretti bloodline needed stability! A crippled heir would have invited rival syndicates to butcher us all! I did it to preserve the empire!”
I looked at my cousin—the man I had trusted with my business, the man who had sat at my table on the day of Elena’s funeral and wept crocodile tears while secretly paying a doctor to poison my daughter’s spine.
