Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN WHO WANTED A CROWN

Lana Vance had never been told no.

Not by her father.

Not by her friends.

Not by the men who wanted access to the Vance fortune.

Tony Moretti had been different.

He didn't flatter her.

Didn't chase her.

Didn't pretend to love her.

Their engagement was an arrangement.

But Lana believed marriage would eventually give her control over his household.

Then Clara Thorne appeared.

A maid.

A nobody.

A woman with no money.

And somehow, Tony had humiliated Lana in front of hundreds of people because of her.

Lana was furious.

She called her father.

“Fix this.”

Richard Vance sighed.

“Tony is angry.”

“I don't care.”

“Lana.”

“He embarrassed me!”

Richard's voice hardened.

“You nearly killed an employee.”

Lana froze.

For a moment, she couldn't believe her father had said it.

Then she whispered:

“Whose side are you on?”

Richard closed his eyes.

“The side that keeps us alive.”

Lana stared.

He continued.

“Tony Moretti is not a man you threaten casually.”

She smiled coldly.

“Then maybe we should remind him how much he needs us.”

Richard went silent.

Lana leaned forward.

“Cut off his financing.”

Her father stared.

“That's dangerous.”

May you like

She smiled.

“Then he'll understand what happens when he chooses a maid over me.”
