Chapter 12 - THE STORM THAT FOLLOWED THEM HOME

Clara and Tony began dating in March.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Without pretending their lives were simple.
Tony was still dangerous.
Still powerful.
Still responsible for businesses with complicated histories.
Clara refused to ignore that.
One evening, she asked him:
“Do you ever think about leaving the criminal world?”
Tony looked at her.
“Every day.”
She stared.
“Really?”
He nodded.
“More often lately.”
Clara smiled faintly.
“Why?”
He looked at her.
“Because I want a future that doesn't require you to be afraid.”
Her expression softened.
Tony continued.
“I can't erase my past.”
She nodded.
“I know.”
“But I can choose what happens next.”
Clara took his hand.
For a moment, they sat quietly.
Then she whispered:
“That's all I can ask.”
Over the following months, Tony began restructuring his operations.
He separated legitimate businesses from criminal activities.
Appointed independent executives.
Cooperated with legal investigations.
And gradually reduced his involvement in the underworld.
It wasn't easy.
Some men resisted.
Others threatened.
But Tony remained determined.
