Chapter 13 - THE MAN WHO PUT DOWN HIS GUN

The final threat came from the Russo family.

They believed Tony's withdrawal from criminal operations created an opportunity.

A rival leader demanded control over several shipping routes.

Tony refused.

The rival threatened his businesses.

Then Clara.

Tony was furious.

For a moment, the old instincts returned.

The desire to retaliate.

To frighten.

To destroy.

Then he remembered Clara lying unconscious beneath the snow.

He remembered how close she had come to dying because someone believed power meant the right to hurt others.

Tony called Dominic.

“Get the attorneys.”

Dominic frowned.

“Boss?”

“And contact the authorities.”

Dominic stared.

Tony continued.

“We're ending this legally.”

The investigation led to several arrests.

Tony cooperated.

Provided records.

And accepted the consequences of his own past involvement where required.

It was not a simple transformation.

But it was real.

One evening, Clara found him sitting beside the fireplace.

He looked exhausted.

She sat beside him.

“Long day?”

Tony smiled faintly.

“Very.”

She took his hand.

“Worth it?”

He looked at her.

May you like

Then smiled.

“Yes.”
