Chapter 4 - The Fiancee's Hidden Ledger

Within thirty minutes, Nathaniel had locked down his private study and placed encrypted satellite calls to his personal forensic security team in Manhattan.
Marcus Lawson, Nathaniel’s chief of private intelligence and former federal investigator, arrived via helicopter on the south lawn within the hour, carrying a secure biometric server terminal.
Marcus set up his equipment in the study, magnifying the high-resolution optical scans of the platinum prong recovered by Lily.
“The metallurgical analysis is definitive,” Marcus reported, tapping the monitor. “This is a 950-platinum micro-prong manufactured by Harry Winston. It matches the exact custom setting of the five-carat engagement ring you purchased for Vivien Cole last December.”
Nathaniel’s jaw clenched so tight the muscle twitched beneath his skin. “What about the financial audit on the Whitmore Foundation?”
Marcus pulled up sixty pages of decrypted bank statements.
“It’s sickening, Nathaniel,” Marcus said quietly. “Over the past eighteen months, Vivien Cole has systematically funneled $18.4 million from the Whitmore Children’s Educational Endowment into an offshore shell entity in the Cayman Islands called Aegis Horizon LLC.”
“And who controls Aegis Horizon?”
“Vivien Cole and Bradley Sinclair,” Marcus replied, displaying a photograph of a slick, thirty-five-year-old venture capitalist. “Her former fiancé from Boston. They never broke up. Bradley’s hedge fund lost $40 million in speculative crypto derivatives two years ago. Vivien entered your life as a calculated corporate parasite to loot your family trusts to cover Bradley’s debts.”
Nathaniel closed his eyes, drawing a slow, agonizing breath.
The dinners, the gentle smiles, the sweet words whispered across the breakfast table—it had all been an orchestrated, predatory con designed to strip his family of everything.
“And my mother?” Nathaniel asked, his voice dropping into a register of cold, absolute death.
“Margaret discovered the unauthorized wire transfers yesterday afternoon,” Marcus explained. “We found Margaret’s handwritten notes in her private safe. She confronted Vivien at the top of the stairs at 7:10 PM, threatening to call the FBI and have her arrested before dinner.”
“So Vivien pushed her to silence her before the board meeting,” Nathaniel whispered.
“Exactly,” Marcus nodded. “If Margaret died, Vivien assumed your grief would allow her to accelerate the wedding, gain spousal power of attorney, and clean out the remaining $50 million in trust reserves.”
Nathaniel stood up, looking out over the grey winter lawn.
“Have two armed operators stationed outside Rosa and Lily’s room,” Nathaniel commanded. “And tell the catering team to proceed with tonight’s engagement gala.”
Marcus looked up, surprised. “You’re keeping the gala?”
May you like
A ruthless, terrifying smile touched Nathaniel’s lips.
“I want all five hundred of our investors, society friends, and the press in that ballroom tonight,” Nathaniel said. “I want Vivien Cole to stand under the crystal chandeliers and believe she owns the world... right before I drop her into the abyss.”
