Chapter 6 - The Dawn Freeze of the Corporate Vaults

At 6:30 AM, the morning sun rose over the Atlanta skyline, casting long golden rays through the executive windows of Cross Logistics Headquarters in Norcross.

Julian Cross sat in his corner office wearing an expensive Italian suit, sipping espresso with a smug, triumphant grin.

Beside him, Gwen Vance sat on the corner of the mahogany desk, reviewing color swatches for their upcoming engagement party.

“Julian, darling,” Gwen purred, touching his cheek. “We should list that old split-level townhouse today. Once we sell it for eight hundred thousand, we can put the down payment on the mansion in Buckhead.”

“Consider it done, baby,” Julian chuckled, leaning back in his leather chair. “Seraphina is probably wandering around an emergency shelter right now. She has no family, no money, and no lawyer. She’ll take whatever scrap of a settlement I offer her.”

BZZZ-BZZZ-BZZZ.

Julian’s private desktop terminal began flashing with bright crimson alert banners:

Contract Cancellation: Savannah Port Logistics revoked all 42 freight distribution agreements due to "material breach of vendor integrity."

Credit Line Revocation: First National Bank issued an immediate demand for full repayment of a $3.2 million commercial revolving facility guaranteed by Hayes Maritime subsidiaries.

Account Liquidation: All business operating accounts frozen under emergency chancery court discovery liens.

Julian’s espresso cup shattered on the floorboards.

“What the hell is this?!” Julian screamed, slamming his hands onto the desk.

His office door burst open.

Beatrice Cross stumbled in, her hair disheveled, clutching her chest, weeping hysterically.

“Julian! We’re ruined! Every corporate credit card has been declined! The bank just repossessed the delivery trucks at the depot!”

“Mom, calm down! It’s a software glitch!”

“It’s not a glitch, Julian!” Beatrice wailed, grabbing his lapels with shaking hands. “Seraphina’s father is Arthur Hayes! The man who owns the ports! We threw the daughter of Hayes Maritime into the rain!”
