Chapter 4 - The Private Suite at Northside

Arthur didn't give Julian or Beatrice a second glance.

“Marcus,” Arthur commanded, his baritone vibrating through the rain.

“Yes, Chairman Hayes?”

“Transfer Seraphina to the Northside Women’s Pavilion immediately. Have Dr. Vance clear the entire VIP surgical wing.”

“The medical detail is ready, sir.”

Arthur gently guided Seraphina into the heated leather cabin of the armored Escalade, placing her wet paper bag carefully on the adjacent seat.

Inside the private ambulance suite at Northside Hospital forty minutes later, Dr. Eleanor Vance—Atlanta’s premier obstetric specialist—conducted a comprehensive ultrasound examination.

The rhythmic, galloping beat of a healthy fetal heartbeat filled the private recovery room:

Thump-thump... thump-thump... thump-thump.

“Fetal heart rate is 144 beats per minute,” Dr. Vance smiled warmly, wiping the acoustic gel from Seraphina’s abdomen. “The baby is strong, active, and uninjured by the cold. Seraphina suffered mild peripheral hypothermia and elevated blood pressure, but twenty-four hours of intravenous hydration and bed rest will restore her fully.”

Seraphina lay back against the plush pillows of the luxury hospital bed, dressed in a clean, soft silk gown, holding a cup of warm chamomile tea.

Arthur sat in the leather armchair beside her bed, his weathered hand holding hers with immense gentleness.

“You hid for four years, my stubborn girl,” Arthur said softly, a trace of sorrow in his smile. “You thought love meant hiding who you were.”

“I wanted to know if someone could love me for just being me, Dad,” Seraphina whispered, looking down at the antique pearl brooch resting on her nightstand. “Not for the ships. Not for the towers.”

“A man who loves you does not leave you in the rain, Seraphina,” Arthur answered firmly. “A real man builds a fortress around you.”

The door to the suite opened softly.

Julian Hayes, the Senior Managing Partner of Hayes & Associates Legal Consortium, entered the room carrying an encrypted titanium tablet.

“Chairman Hayes, Lady Seraphina,” Julian Hayes bowed respectfully. “The financial and corporate autopsy of Cross Logistics is complete.”
