Chapter 12 - THE BILLIONAIRE WHO FELL IN LOVE

Elliot realized he loved Nora on an ordinary Tuesday afternoon.

They were sitting in the museum café.

Nora had ink on her fingers.

Her hair was falling out of its clip.

And she was arguing passionately about the importance of preserving oral histories.

Elliot watched her.

Smiling.

“What?” she asked.

“Nothing.”

She narrowed her eyes.

“Elliot.”

He laughed.

“I like listening to you.”

Nora blinked.

“You do?”

“Yes.”

She smiled.

“Most people don't.”

“Most people are missing something.”

Her cheeks warmed.

Elliot hesitated.

“Nora, can I ask you something?”

“Sure.”

“Would you have dinner with me?”

She stared.

“Dinner?”

“Yes.”

“Like a business dinner?”

He smiled.

“No.”

Nora looked down.

Then back at him.

“Elliot, you're a billionaire.”

“I've been told.”

She laughed.

“And I'm a former waitress.”

He shook his head.

“You're a researcher.”

She smiled.

“Still.”

Elliot leaned forward.

“Nora, I'm asking because I like you.”

Her expression softened.

“Not because of my father.”

“Not because of the investigation.”

“Because of you.”

Nora looked at him for a long moment.

Then smiled.

“Yes.”

Elliot grinned.

“Really?”

May you like

She laughed.

“Don't make me change my mind.”
