Chapter 8 - THE FATHER WHO WANTED CONTROL

Connor filed a legal request concerning the pregnancy.
His attorney sent a letter seeking information and proposing future arrangements.
My attorney explained that parental rights and responsibilities would be addressed under applicable law, with the child's interests central to any later decisions.
I tried to remain calm.
But every message from Connor made my stomach tighten.
One afternoon, he appeared outside the veterinary clinic.
I was leaving work when I saw him beside my car.
My heart stopped.
“Madison.”
I stepped backward.
“What are you doing here?”
He held up his hands.
“I just want to talk.”
“You can contact my attorney.”
He laughed bitterly.
“Seriously?”
“Yes.”
His expression hardened.
“You think that mafia guy is going to protect you forever?”
I froze.
Connor smiled.
“Yeah. I know who he is.”
I looked toward the clinic.
Dr. Lane stood near the door.
Watching.
Connor stepped closer.
“You're making a mistake.”
I took out my phone.
“Leave.”
He stared.
Then shook his head.
“You'll regret this.”
He walked away.
Dr. Lane came outside.
“Are you okay?”
I nodded.
But my hands were shaking.
She looked toward Connor's car.
“Do you want me to call someone?”
I swallowed.
“Yes.”
That evening, I spoke with my attorney about documenting the encounter and seeking appropriate protective measures if the behavior continued.
I also called Alessandro.
He answered immediately.
“Madison?”
I took a breath.
“Connor came to my work.”
Silence.
“Are you safe?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
I hesitated.
“I didn't know who else to call.”
His voice softened.
“You can call me.”
He didn't offer revenge.
Didn't threaten Connor.
Didn't tell me what to do.
May you like
He listened.
And somehow, that was exactly what I needed.
