Chapter 7 - The Collapse of the Bennett Name

News of Dr. Adrian Vale’s arrest and the Bennett family scandal exploded across national media the following morning.

Front-page headlines in the Boston Globe, The New York Times, and international television broadcasts dominated the news cycle:

‘High-Society Fertility Dynasty Shattered: Renowned Physician Exposed as Biological Father to Dozens of Unsuspecting Patients.’

‘The Bennett Heir Hoax: Multi-Million Dollar Boston Estate Built on Thirty-Year Genetic Deception.’

At 10:00 AM, the board of trustees of the William Bennett Heritage Foundation convened an emergency session at their financial offices on State Street.

Evelyn Bennett arrived wearing dark sunglasses and a fur coat, accompanied by her high-priced private defense attorneys. But the board members—men and women who had bowed to her social standing for decades—looked at her with open contempt and disgust.

Board Chairman Arthur Montgomery tapped his gavel with sharp finality.

“Mrs. Evelyn Bennett,” Chairman Montgomery stated, sliding a certified legal brief across the table. “Under the explicit terms of the 1994 William Bennett Testamentary Trust, all executive authority, living stipends, and residential rights to the Beacon Hill estate were contingent upon the lawful, biological succession of William Bennett’s direct bloodline.”

Evelyn sat upright, her voice trembling with indignation. “William raised Grant as his own! Grant is his legal son under common law!”

“Under common law, yes. But under Section 14 of William’s trust deed, biological paternity was an unalterable prerequisite for trust corpus distribution,” Montgomery countered ruthlessly. “William specifically included a posthumous genetic audit clause in the event of suspected marital infidelity. He suspected you thirty years ago, Evelyn. He simply didn't have the DNA technology to prove it before he died.”

Montgomery gestured to the foundation’s legal counsel.

“Effective immediately, the William Bennett Trust is liquidated and transferred to the Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology Research Fund, pursuant to William’s default charitable bequest. The Beacon Hill mansion will be surrendered to the trust executors within thirty days. Your private credit lines and corporate accounts are revoked.”

Evelyn clutched her pearl necklace, gasping for air as her empire of prestige, luxury, and social dominance vanished before her eyes.

“You can’t do this to me!” Evelyn shrieked, tears ruining her makeup. “I am Evelyn Bennett!”

“You are the widow of a man you betrayed,” Montgomery replied with cold finality. “And your name is no longer on the door.”
