Chapter 9 - THE FAMILY THAT BROKE ITSELF

Luca Vitelli was arrested in connection with the conspiracy after investigators assembled evidence linking him to the compromised medication and financial arrangements.
The case crossed jurisdictions.
Irish authorities coordinated with counterparts in Italy and the United States.
Antonio cooperated.
He provided business records.
Correspondence.
Access logs.
And information about the companies Luca had used.
The investigation also exposed illegal activity within parts of the Vitelli network.
For years, Antonio had separated legitimate shipping operations from criminal arrangements he inherited.
But the boundary had never been clean.
Now he faced a choice.
Protect the family name.
Or tell the truth.
He chose the truth.
His attorneys warned him that cooperation could bring consequences for his own past decisions.
Antonio nodded.
“I understand.”
Sofia visited him that evening.
She found him sitting alone in his office.
“You look terrible.”
He smiled faintly.
“Thank you.”
She sat opposite him.
“Are you scared?”
Antonio hesitated.
Then nodded.
“Yes.”
Sofia reached across the desk.
“Good.”
He looked surprised.
She smiled sadly.
“Maybe fear means you're finally taking this seriously.”
Antonio laughed softly.
Then he looked toward the family photograph on the wall.
His father.
His mother.
Luca.
Sofia.
Himself.
For years, he'd believed loyalty meant protecting everyone in that picture.
Now he understood that loyalty without accountability could destroy the people it claimed to defend.
He stood.
Removed the photograph.
And placed it in a drawer.

Not because he wanted to forget.
Because he was ready to stop living inside it.
