Chapter 10 - A Garden Awash in Sunlight

================================================================================

One year after that stormy midnight when a three-year-old girl knocked on the study door, the summer sun rose over the rolling lawns of the Duca estate in a blaze of warm amber and gold.

The estate had been completely transformed. The cold, sterile medical equipment and dark security barriers had been replaced by blooming rose gardens, outdoor stone terraces, and a brand-new, solar-powered children's playground overlooking the sparkling waters of the Sound.

The sprawling lawn was filled with laughter, lively acoustic music, and the joyful chatter of children.

Seven-year-old Lucas—now tall, fast, and bursting with boundless energy—was sprinting across the lush grass playing tag with four-year-old Emma. Their laughter rang out clear, pure, and free against the gentle sea breeze as their golden retriever puppy chased after a flying red frisbee.

Standing on the sunlit timber terrace overlooking the grounds, Lorenzo held a glass of iced lemonade, watching the children play.

Around his neck hung a small, polished silver medal—the Saint Jude charm that had once belonged to his late wife, now safely restored.

Clara walked out onto the terrace, wearing a beautiful ivory linen sundress, holding a plate of freshly baked blueberry scones. Under their joint leadership, she had been appointed Managing Director of the Duca Philanthropic Foundation, overseeing pediatric care programs across the country.

Lorenzo wrapped a strong, loving arm around Clara’s waist, pulling her gently against his side.

“Look at them, Clara,” Lorenzo whispered, his voice rich with deep, unshakeable peace.

“Lucas has your speed,” Clara laughed, watching Lucas make a diving catch on the lawn to tag Emma. “He hasn't stopped running since breakfast.”

“That’s because he has Emma to chase,” Lorenzo smiled warmly, turning Clara gently in his arms.

He reached into his pocket, pulled out a velvet jeweler’s box, and opened it to reveal a breathtaking, flawless sapphire ring surrounded by diamonds.

Lorenzo looked into Clara’s eyes with all the devotion and honor of his soul.

“Clara, you and Emma walked into my darkness and brought back the light. You saved my boy, you healed my heart, and you made this house a true home. Will you marry me and be my family forever?”

Tears of pure, overwhelming joy welled in Clara’s eyes.

“Yes, Lorenzo,” she smiled, throwing her arms around his neck. “Yes, with all my heart.”

Lorenzo slid the ring onto her finger and kissed her beneath the warm summer sky as Lucas and Emma came sprinting up the terrace steps, cheering and wrapping their small arms around both of their waists.

“Mom! Dad! Look! The puppy caught the frisbee!” Lucas cheered.

Lorenzo and Clara laughed together, scooping both children into their arms in a warm, unbreakable family embrace.

The poison in the pillow, the cold shadows of the past, and the fear were gone forever. Standing together in the brilliant sunlight of truth, honor, and unconditional love, their family was whole—and their future was brighter than anything they had ever dared to dream.
