Chapter 6 - The Protective Injunction

On Tuesday morning, the Dallas County Family Court convened an emergency session before Judge Katherine Moore.
Diane appeared via video monitor from the Lew Sterrett Justice Center, dressed in a faded orange jail jumpsuit, her makeup gone, looking disheveled, bitter, and hollow.
Her defense attorney attempted to petition for pre-trial bond release, arguing that Diane had no prior criminal record and suffered from high blood pressure.
Judge Moore looked down from the bench with piercing, unyielding authority.
“Counselor, I have reviewed Exhibit A: the 4K digital video recording captured by the minor witness,” Judge Moore stated, her voice echoing across the courtroom. “Your client held a seven-month-old infant at arm's length, verbally threatened him, and intentionally slammed him onto a floor, causing a skull fracture. That is not an accident. That is cold-blooded, sadistic violence against a defenseless baby.”
Judge Moore struck her gavel with a resounding crack.
