Chapter 5 - The Custody Plan Hidden in the Cloud

Justin’s custody plan was more detailed than we first understood.
He had hired a private investigator to follow me.
Photographs showed me buying wine for Luke’s birthday, crying in my car after a pediatric appointment, and leaving Maya with Nathan for two hours while I attended a dental procedure.
Every ordinary moment had been labeled as evidence.
Alcohol use.
Emotional instability.
Abandonment.
He tracked my spending and removed money from our joint account to make me financially dependent.
He also contacted daycare centers under my name and canceled applications, creating the impression that I refused childcare.
Vanessa wrote a public-relations strategy titled:
PROTECTIVE FATHER, UNSTABLE MOTHER.
The document recommended releasing selected medical records after filing for custody.
It suggested emphasizing my “obsession” with the affair.
It proposed presenting Vanessa’s pregnancy as proof of Justin’s stable future.
The final page included potential headlines.
EXECUTIVE FATHER FIGHTS TO SAVE INFANT FROM MEDICAL NEGLECT.
Justin had not merely planned to defeat me in court.
He planned to convict me in public first.
The private investigator turned over his files after learning the medical evidence was forged.
“I thought it was an ordinary custody case,” he said.
“There is no ordinary custody case when one parent is manufacturing evidence,” Luke replied.
The investigator admitted placing a listening device inside my car.
One recording captured Justin threatening me months earlier.
“If you ever leave,” he said, “I will make sure everyone knows you are too unstable to raise Maya.”
My own frightened silence followed.
The recording became evidence against him.
Justin’s strategy depended on collecting my vulnerability.
Instead, he had documented his coercion.
The court suspended his visitation pending psychological evaluation and criminal review.
Justin blamed Vanessa.
He claimed she created the false pregnancy and public-relations plan without his knowledge.
Emails showed him editing every page.
Vanessa blamed Dr. Voss.
Dr. Voss remained missing.
Then Mark traced a payment from Justin’s corporate expense account to a private air charter departing from Nogales.
Dr. Voss had fled to Mexico using documents arranged by Justin’s employer.
The employer was Suncrest Development Group.
Its chief executive, Malcolm Reyes, was Marisol’s uncle.
