Chapter 9 - The Nursing Degree and the New Will

Three months later, the spring sunshine melted the last traces of winter snow from the bluffs overlooking Lake Erie.
Inside the great oak library of Whitmore Manor, Arthur’s longtime estate litigator, Samuel Price, laid out the newly ratified testamentary documents.
Grace sat in a velvet armchair, completely healthy, radiant, her cheeks flushed with vibrant color. She wore a tailored blazer and held an official acceptance letter from the prestigious Case Western Reserve University School of Nursing—fully funded under an independent endowment Arthur had created in her name.
“Here is the ratified structure,” Samuel Price announced with a warm smile:
The Primary Trust: 100% of the Whitmore Global Logistics voting shares and real estate assets were placed into the Grace, Caleb & Annie Whitmore Heritage Foundation, with Arthur serving as managing trustee until we reached majority.
The Educational & Medical Grants: A twenty-million-dollar charity fund—the Thomas & Eleanor Whitmore Memorial Foundation—was established to provide free healthcare and full university scholarships for underprivileged children and struggling older siblings raising their families across the Midwest.
Grace wiped a tear of pure joy from her eye, reaching out to hug Arthur tightly. “Grandpa... thank you. For believing in my dream.”
Arthur smiled, kissing her forehead. “You earned this dream, Grace. You kept your brother and sister alive through the darkest storm. Now, it’s our turn to take care of you.”

I looked out the library window at the sprawling garden below. The weeds were gone, the stone pathways were pristine, and the old rosebushes were already bursting with fresh, vibrant green leaves.
