Chapter 7 - The Ambush at the BoathouseWhile Julian sat in a federal holding cell awaiting arraignment, his remaining co-conspirators were not ready to surrender quietly.

Julian’s private security chief, Marcus Kane—the man who had personally commanded the mercenary squad in the alley—had fled Manhattan during the boardroom arrest. Kane had broken into a private Whitmore boathouse on the Long Island Sound, attempting to access a high-speed smuggling yacht loaded with $12 million in bearer bonds and untraceable diamonds Julian had stashed as an escape reserve.
At 11:30 PM, Kane and two armed mercenaries were loading the titanium cases onto the vessel when the floodlights around the dock erupted in blinding brilliance.
“Nobody move! Federal agents!”
Sirens wailed across the water as two Coast Guard tactical interceptor cutters boxed in the yacht from the harbor, while Captain Thomas Vance and FBI SWAT teams surrounded the boathouse perimeter.
Kane drew his automatic weapon, attempting to use the fuel tanks as cover. “We’re not going to federal prison! Back off or I blow this entire dock!”
“Drop the weapon, Kane!” Vance’s voice boomed through a megaphone from an armored vehicle on the ramp. “Your offshore accounts have been seized, your pilot has been arrested in Miami, and Julian has already signed a full confession naming you as the trigger-man on the Hudson bridge nine years ago!”
Kane froze, his eyes darting toward the open water where heavy 50-caliber gun mounts on the Coast Guard vessels were trained directly onto his chest.
The reality of total, inescapable defeat crushed his resolve.
Kane slowly lowered his assault rifle, dropped it onto the wooden planks, and raised his hands above his head.
Within ninety seconds, the entire mercenary cell was pinned, disarmed, and secured in heavy transport vans. The $12 million in stolen assets was recovered intact, without a single shot fired.
Back at Whitmore Manor, Evelyn received the radio confirmation from Captain Vance while sitting by the library hearth, brushing my hair with an antique silver comb.
“The harbor is secure, ma'am,” Vance reported through the speakerphone. “Every asset has been recovered. Kane is in federal custody.”

Evelyn set the comb down, a profound, serene peace settling over her weathered features.
“Thank you, Thomas,” Evelyn replied softly. “Bring our people home.”
