Chapter 6 - The Forensic Reckoning“You look surprised to see me, Julian,” Sarah said, her voice ringing clear and steady through the suffocating silence of the boardroom.

Several senior board members jumped to their feet, gasping in utter astonishment.

“Sarah!” Arthur Montgomery shouted, his voice cracking with pure emotion. “My God... you're alive!”

“She’s an impostor!” Julian screamed, slamming his hands onto the marble table, his slick veneer completely shattering into wild, panicked rage. “Sarah Whitmore died nine years ago in an icy river! Security! Remove these trespassers from the boardroom immediately!”

Two private Whitmore security officers stepped into the room, but they didn't look at Julian. They took positions flanking Evelyn and Sarah, standing at rigid attention.

“The security team answers to me, Julian,” Evelyn said coldly, taking her seat at the true head of the table. “And unlike you, they recognize the rightful heir to this company.”

Captain Thomas Vance stepped forward, accompanied by two senior forensic auditors and Assistant United States Attorney Karen Miller.

Vance plugged an encrypted drive into the boardroom presentation terminal.

The giant digital screens along the walls lit up, displaying certified, irrefutable evidence:

DNA Verification Certificate: Issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, confirming Sarah Whitmore’s identity and proving Lily Whitmore’s 99.999% direct maternal lineage to Evelyn Whitmore.

Audio Wiretaps: Decrypted satellite transmissions from three nights ago, capturing Julian’s voice authorizing the mercenary hit team to execute Sarah in the delivery alley outside the Waldorf.

Financial Forensics: A complete audit mapping $28 million in embezzled corporate funds funneled from Whitmore Logistics directly into Julian’s offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands.

Gasps of horror and disgust erupted from every director around the table.

“This is an outrage!” Julian yelled, sweat pouring down his forehead, soaking his silk collar. “These documents are fabricated! You’re trying to stage a corporate coup!”

“The only coup in this room, Mr. Sterling,” Prosecutor Karen Miller announced, stepping forward with an active federal warrant, “was the one you initiated nine years ago when you attempted to murder Sarah Whitmore to seize control of the Atlantic supply chain.”

Prosecutor Miller nodded toward the doorway.

Four uniformed Federal Marshals walked into the boardroom with handcuffs drawn.

“Julian Sterling,” Miller stated clearly, “you are under arrest for Attempted Capital Murder, Interstate Wire Fraud, Conspiracy to Commit Grand Larceny, and Racketeering under the RICO Act.”

Julian staggered backward, knocking over his leather chair. He looked around the table, desperately searching for an ally among the board members who had toasted his success only minutes earlier.

Every single director turned their head away from him with open revulsion.

As the marshals grabbed Julian’s arms and snapped the steel cuffs around his wrists, he turned his wild, bloodshot eyes toward me.

“You...” Julian hissed through bared teeth. “You little gutter rat... you should have frozen in the alley!”

I didn't flinch. I took a step forward, touched the blue teardrop gemstone resting over my heart, and looked directly into his eyes.

“My grandmother told me that thieves always get caught in the light,” I said calmly. “Enjoy the dark, Julian.”
