Chapter 8 - THE MILLIONAIRE'S LAST THREAT

Ethan arrived at Grace's suite without warning.
He pounded on the door.
“Grace!”
She was resting when the noise began.
Declan had just left for a meeting.
Grace stood slowly.
“Ethan?”
“Open the door.”
She hesitated.
Then called hotel security.
Only after they arrived did she open it.
Ethan stood in the hallway.
His hair was disheveled.
His face pale.
“Are you seriously divorcing me?”
Grace looked at him.
“Yes.”
He laughed bitterly.
“Because of Vanessa?”
“Among other things.”
“Grace, people make mistakes.”
She stared.
“Eleven months isn't a mistake.”
He looked away.
“I was going to end it.”
“When?”
He said nothing.
Grace continued.
“Before or after you transferred company funds into her consulting business?”
Ethan froze.
“You don't understand those transactions.”
“I understand them perfectly.”
His expression hardened.
“You think Declan Pierce is helping you because he cares?”
Grace said nothing.
“He wants your company.”
“No.”
“He wants your money.”
“No.”
“He wants you.”
Grace looked at him.
“Even if he did, that wouldn't change what you did.”
Ethan stepped closer.
“You're my wife.”
Grace held his gaze.
“For now.”
His jaw tightened.
“And that's my child.”
Grace placed a hand over her belly.
“Yes. Our child.”
“You can't keep him from me.”
“I haven't threatened to.”
Ethan looked at the security officers.
Then back at Grace.
“You're making a terrible mistake.”
She smiled sadly.
“No, Ethan.”
Her voice remained steady.
“I made a terrible mistake seven years ago when I confused your ambition with integrity.”
He stared at her.
Then turned and walked away.
Grace closed the door.
For a moment, she leaned against it.
Her hands shook.
Then the baby kicked.
May you like
She smiled through tears.
“We're going to be okay, sweetheart.”
