Chapter 8 - THE CHILD WHO REMEMBERED NOTHING

The search for Sophia's missing twin began with records.
Birth certificates.
Clinic archives.
Adoption documents.
Much of the information had been altered.
Some files were missing.
Others contained conflicting dates.
But Aleandro's legal team found a name.
Dr. Leonard Price.
The physician who attended Lucia's delivery.
He was eighty-one now.
Retired.
Living in Connecticut.
Sophia traveled there with Gabriel Bellini and an independent investigator.
Dr. Price opened the door.
When he saw Sophia, his face went white.
“Lucia?”
Sophia swallowed.
“No.”
She held up her mother's photograph.
“I'm her daughter.”
The old man gripped the doorframe.
For several seconds, he couldn't speak.
Then he whispered:
“I prayed this day would never come.”
Sophia stared.
“What happened to my sister?”
Dr. Price began crying.
“I was told the baby would be safe.”
Sophia felt cold.
“Where is she?”
He shook his head.
“I don't know where she is now.”
Sophia stepped closer.
“Then tell me where you sent her.”
Dr. Price closed his eyes.
Then whispered a name.
“Eleanor Hayes.”
Sophia stared.
“Who is that?”

The doctor looked at her.
“The woman who adopted your sister.”
