Chapter 5 - THE SISTER WHO WAS TAKEN AWAY
Sophia stared at Gabriel.
“Twins?”
He nodded.
She shook her head.
“No. My mother only had me.”
Gabriel looked devastated.
“Lucia told me she gave birth to two girls.”
Sophia's heart hammered.
“What happened to the other baby?”
Gabriel hesitated.
“She said someone took her.”
Sophia felt the room tilt.
He explained that Lucia had gone into labor while hiding in a private clinic outside New York.
Vittorio's associates found her.
One infant was removed before Lucia could hold her.
The other remained with her.
Lucia escaped with Sophia.
For years, she searched for the missing child.
But every lead disappeared.
Sophia began crying.
“I have a sister?”
Gabriel nodded.
“Somewhere.”
Sophia looked at the photograph of her parents.
“Why didn't she tell me?”
Gabriel's eyes filled.
“Perhaps she wanted to protect you.”
Sophia stared.
For years, she'd believed she was alone.
No father.
No siblings.
Only her mother.
Now she had a family she didn't know.
And a sister who might still be alive.
Gabriel reached across the table.
“Your mother never stopped looking.”
