Chapter 14 - THE PROMISE BENEATH THE CHANDELIERS

Two years after Emma danced barefoot in the ballroom, Aleandro invited Sophia to a small dinner.
The ballroom was empty.
No guests.
No orchestra.
Only soft lights.
And a single table.
Sophia entered wearing a blue dress.
Emma, now five, held her hand.
Aleandro smiled.
“Hello, princess.”
Emma grinned.
“Are we dancing?”
He laughed.
“Later.”
They ate dinner.
Talked.
Laughed.
Then Aleandro stood.
He walked toward the center of the ballroom.
Sophia frowned.
“What are you doing?”
He smiled.
“Something I should have done a long time ago.”
He knelt.
Sophia froze.
He opened a small velvet box.
Inside was a ring.
Aleandro looked at her.
“Sophia, you taught me that love isn't about power.”
His voice shook.
“It's about seeing someone.”
Sophia's eyes filled.
He continued.
“You showed me what courage looks like.”
He paused.
“Will you marry me?”
Sophia covered her mouth.
Emma squealed.
“Say yes, Mommy!”
Sophia laughed through tears.
“Yes.”
Aleandro smiled.
He slipped the ring onto her finger.
Then kissed her.
Emma ran toward them.
And beneath the same chandeliers where she had once been mocked, the little girl danced again.

This time, nobody was laughing at her.
Everyone was celebrating.
