Chapter 4 - THE WOMAN WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD

Elena Voss had once managed the Falcone family's private accounts.
She was brilliant.
Methodical.
And trusted with information that could destroy powerful men.
Seventeen years earlier, she had vanished after an internal investigation into missing funds.
Everyone believed she'd been murdered.
Dominic had been twenty-one.
His father had ordered him never to speak her name again.
Now she had appeared outside the east docks.
And my brother had followed her.
Dominic stood in front of the security footage.
“Play it again.”
The woman approached Owen.
Spoke to him.
Handed him something.
Then they walked toward a waiting car.
No struggle.
No visible weapon.
Just urgency.
I leaned closer.
“She's giving him an envelope.”
Dominic nodded.
“Can you identify it?”
I stared.
White paper.
Blue lettering.
A small gold symbol in the corner.
My heart stopped.
“I've seen that logo.”
Dominic turned.
“Where?”
“In the files from the federal raid.”
I opened my notebook.
Flipped through pages.
Then found the sketch I'd made while reviewing the documents.
A gold compass.
Three blue lines.
“Northbridge Maritime Trust.”
Dominic's expression darkened.
“That company was dissolved years ago.”
I shook my head.
“Not according to the insurance records.”
He stared.
“What?”
I swallowed.
“Northbridge still receives payments.”
The room became silent.
Dominic slowly sat down.
For the first time since I'd known him, he looked genuinely shaken.
“Gemma.”
“Yes?”
“Northbridge belonged to my father.”
I stared.
“And when he died, every asset was supposed to be transferred to me.”
He looked at the screen.
“But if Northbridge still exists…”
I finished the thought.
“Someone has been using your father's company without your knowledge.”
Dominic nodded.

Then whispered:
“And Elena Voss knows who.”
