Chapter 10 - THE MEETING DANTE NEVER EXPECTED
Dante arrived at the Falcone headquarters expecting another negotiation.
Instead, he found Dominic seated at the head of the boardroom.
I sat beside him.
Two attorneys waited near the windows.
And federal investigators stood outside.
Dante looked around.
“What is this?”
Dominic didn't move.
“Sit down.”
Dante laughed nervously.
“Dominic, if this is about Sal—”
“It's about Northbridge.”
Dante stopped smiling.
I opened a folder.
“Eleven point six million dollars in unauthorized transfers.”
Dante looked at me.
Then at Dominic.
“She's confused.”
Dominic's voice hardened.
“She's the reason we found it.”
Dante leaned back.
“You're trusting your secretary over me?”
Dominic stared.
“No.”
He paused.
“I'm trusting evidence over friendship.”
Dante's expression changed.
He stood.
“This is a mistake.”
Dominic didn't move.
“Sit down.”
Dante looked toward the door.
Then back at Dominic.
“You have no idea what you're doing.”
Dominic's voice was quiet.
“I know exactly what I'm doing.”
He nodded toward the attorneys.
“Your access has been revoked.”
Dante laughed bitterly.
“You think you can just remove me?”
Dominic looked at him.
“From my company? Yes.”
Dante stepped backward.
Then the door opened.
Investigators entered.
Dante's face drained of color.
