Chapter 9 - THE CONTRACT ETHAN NEVER READ
Clare's lawyer uncovered something unexpected.
Several wedding vendor agreements had been modified after Clare signed them.
The limousine company.
The reception dress alterations.
The photography schedule.
The changes all favored Vanessa's requests.
And some carried Ethan's electronic approval.
Clare stared at the documents.
“He knew?”
Julian hesitated.
“He approved the changes.”
Her stomach dropped.
“So he didn't just decide that morning.”
Julian shook his head.
“Apparently not.”
Clare looked down.
For weeks, she'd told herself Ethan had made a terrible spontaneous decision.
Now she realized the humiliation had been planned.
Not necessarily to hurt her.
But because her wishes had never mattered enough to protect.
She closed the folder.
“Can we recover any of the deposits?”
Julian nodded.
“Possibly. We'll review the contracts.”
Clare took a breath.
Then smiled faintly.
“Good.”
Julian looked at her.
“What?”
She shook her head.
“Nothing.”
