Chapter 14 - THE LOVE THAT DIDN'T ASK HER TO DISAPPEAR

Julian was different.

Not because he was perfect.

But because he listened.

He remembered Clare's favorite coffee.

Asked about her work.

Respected her schedule.

And never made her feel foolish for caring about details.

One evening, they attended the reopening of the restored theater.

Clare wore a dark green dress.

Julian stood beside her.

The theater glowed with warm light.

Guests admired the restored ceilings.

The polished wood.

The original stage.

Clare looked around.

Her eyes filled.

“You did this,” Julian whispered.

She smiled.

“We did.”

He shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at her.

“You saw what this place could become when everyone else wanted to tear it down.”

Clare swallowed.

Julian took her hand.

“I'm proud of you.”

Tears slipped down her cheeks.

He looked concerned.

“Did I say something wrong?”

She laughed.

“No.”

Then she kissed him.

And for the first time, Clare understood what love was supposed to feel like.

Not competition.

Not exhaustion.

May you like

Not constant fear of being replaced.

Just peace.
