The divorce attorney recommended a forensic accountant.
We reviewed household finances.
Bank statements.
Credit card records.
Company-related payments.
And transactions that Colin had previously refused to explain.
Some expenses were ordinary.
Others raised questions.
Large restaurant bills.
Luxury travel.
Payments to Paige.
Unusual transfers between accounts.
The accountant couldn't immediately determine whether any company funds had been misused.
But the pattern required further investigation.
I stared at the statements.
While I'd been worrying about grocery prices, Colin had been spending thousands on dinners.
While I'd been sewing clothes for our children, he'd been buying Paige jewelry.
While I'd been driving a fourteen-year-old Honda, he'd been paying for luxury hotel suites.
I looked at the accountant.
“Can we prove where the money came from?”
She nodded.
“With proper records and legal discovery, we can investigate.”
