Chapter 8 - THE BROTHER WHO FOUND HIS VOICENicole's recovery was slow.

There were difficult days.

Nightmares.

Pain.

Frustration.

And moments when he refused to leave his room.

But he was no longer alone.

A team of specialists helped him communicate through sign language and assistive technology.

He began attending school remotely.

Then, gradually, in person.

One afternoon, I found him sitting in the garden.

He was holding a tablet.

On the screen was a sentence.

I WANT TO TELL MY STORY.

I looked at him.

"Are you sure?"

He nodded.

With support from his legal representatives and trauma specialists, Nicole provided a carefully arranged statement about what he remembered from the warehouse fire.

His account was supported by recovered footage, financial documents, and Margaret's testimony.

Dante attended the interview.

He sat beside his brother.

Quiet.

Patient.

Present.

Afterward, Nicole typed another message.

YOU BELIEVE ME NOW.

Dante's eyes filled.

"Yes."

Nicole typed again.

I NEEDED YOU BEFORE.

Dante lowered his head.

"I know."

Nicole reached for his hand.

Then typed:

DON'T LEAVE AGAIN.

Dante hugged him.

"Never."

I watched from the doorway.

May you like

And understood that healing wasn't always about forgetting what happened.

Sometimes, it was about finally being believed.
