Chapter 9 - The Baptism of Valenza

Four months later.

The cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Siena was filled with the radiant scent of white lilies, burning frankincense, and choral music.

The grand pews were packed with hundreds of dignitaries, business leaders, estate workers, and extended family members who had gathered to witness the baptism of Leonardo Matteo Valenza and the formal public presentation of the new Donna of the Valenza family.

I stood at the ancient marble baptismal font wearing an ivory lace gown, holding five-month-old Leo, who looked healthy, robust, and completely peaceful in his embroidered silk christening robe.

Beside me stood Matteo in a bespoke three-piece midnight blue suit, his hand resting securely at the small of my back. Maya stood in front of us as the flower girl, proudly holding a velvet pillow with the ceremonial baptismal candle.

Father Antonio poured the blessed holy water over Leo’s dark curls.

“In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.”

Leo let out a tiny, happy coo that echoed against the vaulted stone ceiling, causing a warm ripple of laughter across the grand cathedral.

As the ceremony concluded, Matteo took my hand, leading our family down the central aisle toward the massive wooden doors. The crowd rose in a standing ovation, bowing their heads in deep, genuine reverence not out of fear, but out of profound respect for the family that had restored honor and peace to the region.

When we stepped out onto the cathedral steps into the brilliant Italian sunshine, the church bells began to toll across the valley, their celebratory chimes ringing out across the Tuscan hills.
