Chapter 14 - THE PROMISE

Two years later, Cora stood beside the river.
Voss waited near a bench.
The wind carried the smell of salt and diesel.
"Describe the water," he said.
Cora smiled.
"Gray-blue. Little whitecaps. A ferry crossing toward the terminal."
He nodded.
Then reached into his coat.
"Cora."
She turned.
He held a small velvet box.
Her breath caught.
"I spent years believing the world had ended when I lost my sight."
His voice trembled.
"Then you walked into my office and described everything I was afraid to face."
Cora's eyes filled.
"You didn't fix me."
He smiled.
"You reminded me I was still here."
He opened the box.
"Will you marry me?"
Cora began crying.
Then laughed.
"Yes."
Voss smiled.
"Was that a yes?"
May you like
She kissed him.
"Definitely yes."
