Chapter 10 - THE MAN WHO LEARNED TO TRUST

Voss began changing the way he worked.
He hired independent auditors.
He separated legitimate business operations from criminal activities.
He sought legal counsel regarding cooperation with authorities.
Cora remained his assistant.
But her role changed.
She wasn't simply reading documents anymore.
She was helping him build accessible systems.
Screen readers.
Braille labels.
Voice-controlled scheduling.
Independent verification of financial records.
One afternoon, Voss called her into the office.
"Miss Hayes."
"Yes?"
"I have a question."
She smiled.
"That sounds dangerous."
He almost laughed.
"Would you consider becoming my operations coordinator?"
Cora stared.
"You're serious?"
"Very."
She considered.
"With a real contract?"
"Yes."
"Benefits?"
"Yes."
"Paid vacation?"
"Yes."
He smiled.
"Anything else?"
Cora leaned forward.
"An elevator that works."
May you like
Voss laughed.
"Done."
