Chapter 12 - THE MAN WHO FINALLY SURRENDERED

Lucian arrived at the federal courthouse three days later with his attorney.
He carried two boxes of documents.
Bank statements.
Contracts.
Emails.
And records connecting Harbor Crest to Victor Harlan's network.
He also disclosed his own involvement in illegal financial transactions.
The decision could cost him his freedom.
He knew that.
Harper watched the news coverage from her apartment.
Lucian stood before reporters.
His expression was serious.
“I've made decisions I'm not proud of,” he said.
“I can't undo them.”
He paused.
“But I can take responsibility.”
Harper felt her throat tighten.
For years, Lucian had survived by controlling information.
Now he was giving it away.
Not because he was innocent.
Because he had finally decided to stop pretending he was.
That evening, Harper received a letter.
Inside was a short note.
Harper,
I don't know what happens next.
I don't know whether you'll ever trust me.
But you were right about one thing.
The truth matters more than my reputation.
If I ever get the chance to ask you for coffee again, I promise I'll do it without handcuffs.
Lucian.
Harper read the letter twice.

Then folded it carefully.
And placed it in her desk drawer.
