Chapter 7 - THE NIGHT SHE DISAPPEARED

Vivien vanished on a Thursday afternoon.

She had gone to meet an old colleague of her mother's.

The meeting was supposed to take place at a café.

But when Edmund's security team arrived, she was gone.

Her phone lay beneath a table.

Her handbag remained on the chair.

And a note had been left beside her coffee.

COME ALONE IF YOU WANT YOUR WIFE BACK.

Edmund stared at the message.

For several seconds, he said nothing.

Then he looked at Tommy.

“Find her.”

Tommy nodded.

“We're working on it.”

Edmund's voice dropped.

“Now.”

Meanwhile, Vivien woke in a dark room.

Her wrists were bound.

A single light burned overhead.

Across from her sat an older man with silver hair.

Vincent Bellini.

He smiled.

“Mrs. Costa.”

Vivien stared at him.

“You must be Vincent.”

He raised an eyebrow.

“Your husband told you about me?”

“Enough.”

Vincent laughed.

“Then you know I'm dangerous.”

Vivien looked at the door.

“I know you're a coward who kidnaps women because he's afraid of their husbands.”

His smile disappeared.

“You have your mother's mouth.”

Vivien froze.

Vincent leaned forward.

“She asked too many questions too.”

Her stomach tightened.

“You killed her.”

He smiled again.

“Your mother should have learned when to stop.”

Vivien's eyes filled.

But she refused to look away.

“What did she find?”

Vincent leaned back.

“Something that belonged to me.”

Then he placed a small leather journal on the table.

May you like

Vivien recognized it immediately.

Her mother's journal.
