Vincent made one final attempt to regain control.
He threatened to expose Edmund's criminal activities unless Edmund surrendered the journal.
Edmund refused.
Instead, he contacted attorneys and federal investigators.
He agreed to cooperate.
He knew the decision could cost him his empire.
His freedom.
His reputation.
But he also knew what continuing the old life would cost.
Vivien watched him prepare the documents.
“Are you sure?”
Edmund looked at her.
“No.”
She smiled sadly.
“That's honest.”
He reached for her hand.
“I've spent my life making decisions because I was afraid of losing power.”
“And now?”
He looked into her eyes.
“Now I'm afraid of losing myself.”
Vivien squeezed his hand.
“You won't.”
He smiled faintly.
“How do you know?”
“Because you're finally choosing who you want to become.”
He pulled her close.
And kissed her.
Not as part of a performance.
Not for the guests.
Not to strengthen an alliance.
