Chapter 6 - The Cousins in the Shadows

At 5:00 PM, while Marco’s security team transferred our belongings into a secure executive penthouse in Manhattan, the surveillance dragnet closed around the conspirators.

Inside the 40th-floor private lounge of the Moretti Tower, thirty-six-year-old Victor Moretti sat drinking vintage scotch with HR Director Thomas Henderson.

“Did you clear her desk?” Victor asked in a tense whisper, checking his diamond Rolex.

“Everything was wiped, Victor,” Henderson replied with a smug grin. “Her computer drive was reformatted, and building security escorted her off the premises. She has no copies of the Port Newark audits.”

“And the shoebox?” Victor pressed, leaning forward. “My father’s personal nurse was her mother. If she has that codicil, my claim to the chairmanship is dead.”

“I hired two private contractors from Queens,” Henderson assured him with a dark chuckle. “They are breaking into her Brooklyn apartment right now to recover any physical records. If she resists, they’ll make it look like a tragic local burglary.”

Victor raised his glass. “To the new leadership of Moretti Global.”

Suddenly, the private elevator doors chimed with a sharp, heavy ring.

The doors opened.

Stepping into the lounge was Dominic Moretti, accompanied by eight armed Black Watch tactical operators in dark Kevlar vests.

The glass in Victor’s hand shattered onto the mahogany table.
